‘Tis the season for fun and chaos! I got a head start on my holiday decorating a few weekends back, but I haven’t done much in the way of shopping for gifts quite yet. Each year my mom asks us for a list of things we want for Christmas and this year I was completely stumped. I’m not one for self control, so when I want something I usually buy it for myself which doesn’t leave much of a want list by the end of the year.
As I started doing some hunting to pull together this gift guide I realized there’s tons of things I want AND it helped me with ideas for a few hard to buy for people on my list….hello to all these pretty goodies below!
One of my favourite houses I staged this season was this new build in Leslieville. There’s something about a brand spanking new home with top of the line finishes that gets my heart racing. When the Realtor David Dutton first showed me this home, I couldn’t want to get my styling hands on it. I could easily see myself living in this home!
What do you get when you combine a weekend away full of incredible food and wine? You get a very happy girl.
A few weeks ago the man and I were treated to the most magical weekend thanks to the Wineries of Niagara on the Lake. Ranked as Canada’s #1 food and wine destination, it was no surprise we left with full and satisfied bellies. Over 20 wineries fill the landscape just below the Niagara Escarpment with rows and rows of vineyards. With wine tasting upon wine tasting, a variety of tours and delicious culinary experiences, we couldn’t have asked for a better weekend. Each winery is unique from it’s neighbour and we were thankful to experience the perfect mix of wineries.
We checked into White Oaks Resort & Spa where we were greeted with a gorgeous hotel room and a wood crate full of wine. Needless to say this was a great start to our weekend. We headed off to dinner to the hotel’s restaurant Liv and experienced a four course dinner and wine pairing. I instantly regretted my pant choice. Copious amounts of food and wine definitely call for stretchy pants!
After an amazing first night (and waking up with a slight hangover), we headed to Trius Winery for their Sparkling Experience. Truis has the largest underground sparkling cellar in Canada and we found ourselves surrounded by 350,000 bottles of sparking wine. A girls dream come true!
We were feeling a little giddy after the bubbly, so off we went to enjoy what was one of my favourite meals of the weekend at the Trius restaurant. I’m thankful to have a man who likes to share food because I’m the kind of girl who likes a little taste of everything. We ordered the burrata, duck egg and smoked salmon all of which I highly recommend. So. Damn. Good.
Next we were off to Pillitteri Winery for an icewine tasting and then off to Status Winery to participate in their Food & Wine Lab. We were big fans of this! The one-hour experience taught us how elements such as salt, sugar, acid, fat and protein work to balance, counter balance and enhance your glass of wine and dinner party. I mean, I knew that certain wines pair better with certain foods, but I didn’t know just how much the pairing could completely change the taste of the food and wine. Shoutout to our host Ben for being awesome – so awesome my man develop a man crush on him!
Saturday night we were treated to a stunning dinner at Peller Estates in their wine cellar. With a gorgeous fall tablescape and four course meal and wine pairing by Chef Jason Parsons, we couldn’t have asked for a better date night. It was a pretty magical setting.
Our first stop on Sunday was to Chateau des Charmes for a private tour of their estate and to experience a sweet and salty pairing.
Next, we headed to Ravine Wineries where we fell in love with the small family business feel of the winery. It was quaint and had a chill vibe that we were both digging. We were given a private tour and wine tasting from our host Dan and then we ended off our time at Ravine with a delicious lunch and customized menu. By this point we were both feeling more than a little special.
With very full bellies, we headed to The Hare Wine Co., Niagara on the Lakes’s newest winery. We received a private tour and tasting from the owner which gave us more insight into the story behind the winery.
The last stop of our weekend tour was to Jackson Triggs where we were met with an impressive wine making facility. Pia gave us a private tour of the grounds and we ended it with a beautiful charcuterie platter and a glass of wine next to a fireplace. The perfect ending to the perfect weekend.
And I couldn’t be happier to have shared it with this guy. xo
Next up is this home I staged in Toronto’s Corktown neighbourhood for my bestie’s listing. This is one of those homes that surprises you as soon as you walked in. The outside is deceiving and you don’t realize how large the home is until you step inside.
My favourite area is the dining room! I love the juxtaposition of the bold black and white striped rug with the abstract watercolour art.
One of the best parts of my job is getting to see all the unique homes in Toronto. Each project is completely different from the next and I love that it keeps me on my toes.
This duplex in Toronto’ s Parkdale neighbourhood was pretty unique. Realtor, Rob Sansone, and I decided to only stage the top unit to showcase some of it’s features like the bright kitchen with the big skylight and the 2nd floor loft space which I was drooling over!
